Just to forewarn readers now, this is a way of venting my anger towards Square Enix about Kingdom Hearts 3, but I’m sure that if you are reading this you probably have some of the same feelings that I do.
Recently the movie Second Hand Lions, starring Haley Joel Osment, was on television and I decided to relive the experience of listening to Osment’s adolescent voice crack yet again. However, this time, I couldn’t help but remember Osment (now 24) when he was younger, and voiced the role of Sora in my all-time favorite video game, Kingdom Hearts.
I remember the entire story of both games; Wishing I were Sora every time he hugged Kairi (wink, wink) or high fived Riku (hell yeah!). How I yearned for the Key Blade to be an actual existing sword that, I, myself, could wield. But alas, I had to live my second life that I dreamed of through the video game. So at the ending of Kingdom Hearts 2 when Sora, Kairi and Riku all discovered the note from King Mickey, I was all hyped up that there was going to be a third installment of my second life right around the corner. Well, where the hell is it?! Let me shed a little light as to the amount of time that has passed and what has happened since Kingdom Hearts 2 was released to present day. Since the release of Kingdom Hearts 2 in March of 2006 there have been two different US Presidents in the White House during 3 terms, a Royal Wedding in Great Britain, 6 Super Bowls, multiple civil wars in different countries, I’ve gone through puberty, Daniel Day-Lewis won 2 different Oscars, The Doctor has regenerated 3 times, the Dark Knight trilogy came out as well as all of the movies leading up to and including The Avengers, and oh yeah, did I mention that Haley Joel Osment is now 24? Need I go on? Square Enix, we are waiting!
I know that there hasn’t been a release date, or even a real confirmation that there will be a Kingdom Hearts 3 released any time soon, or ever. However, if the creators of the Kingdom Hearts franchise want to make their fans happy, they will stop with all of the prequels and side stories for the Kingdom Hearts games and just make the third installment of the trilogy already! I’m not complaining; well, I am, but honestly, if Diablo 3 has already come out, shouldn’t Kingdom Hearts 3 come out soon? Yes. There have been multiple hints at the fact that it COULD come out soon, but every time I hear one of those reports and wait on further notifications, none come. I’m left with virtual blue balls sitting at my computer starring at some pop up porn ads on some undeveloped, sketchy, “gaming” website that says they have the answer, but, like always, they don’t.
Although Tetsuya Nomura, one of the producers for the Kingdom Hearts franchise, has expressed interest in the idea of KH3 and has supposedly spoken with Disney about the possibility of a the game, the most he has said about the subject is,“We have various ideas, but we’re not at the point where we can say that (we can make the game).” This, for the most part, is most likely due to the fact that he, as well as other producers of Kingdom Hearts, are still focused on the Final Fantasy franchise. However, here’s my opinion on that; there is a seemingly countless number of Final Fantasy games out in the world today, but only 2 Kingdom Hearts games (not counting games for hand held consoles like Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep) and I believe it’s about damn time to find out what happened to Sora and the gang. I, for one, am growing increasingly impatient, and I believe multiple others feel the same as me. I hope to hear news of the game being made in the next few years and hopefully the release of the PlayStation 4 will put an emphasis on making it, but that’s also what I said about the PS3. Here’s hoping, right?
**Further updates to come on the progress of the Kingdom Hearts 3 movement.
