Apparently some people in China have trouble separating the action in a television show from reality. My Love from the Star, an extremely popular Korean show has begun to air in China and the results have been close to devastating.

The show’s premise is that an alien crash landed on Earth some 400 years ago and immediately fell in love with a human woman. Now, in present day, he’s found a woman who looks almost exactly the same as his original Earthling love. Gao Yuan Yuan, a caption referencing a line in the show: “First snow. Where’s my fried chicken and beer?”

But not all reactions have been as harmless as posting to social media. One pregnant woman from Jiangsu, an eastern Chinese province, almost had a miscarriage as a result of skipping sleep during a binge watch of the show while eating inordinate amounts of fried chicken.

Another woman from Chongqing decided to break up with her boyfriend after he refused to buy her fried chicken when she requested it in the middle of the night. More outrageous stories include a woman almost having a heart attack from becoming too emotional during a scene, a boss giving his employees a day off to watch the series finale, a couple checking themselves into a hospital for pancreatitis.
