The South Korean indie soul/R&B artist Kuk Seung Pyo just dropped his fourth single “Why Do You” feat. Caleb Cruise and we’re already enjoying the direction the up-and-coming artist has taken his music.
Taking a much more introspective approach to his music, the song examines different internal struggles in the process of a dissolution — with the hardships of solitude that feel all too relevant given the universal circumstances of today. The singer has accumulated an impressive following of over 100,000 on YouTube, and his previous single is quickly approaching 40,000 streams on Spotify, using his coalescence of Korean and English lyrics to integrate two different languages and cultures for a solid balance as a fresh face in the industry.
In a press release for his new single, the singer shares, “As an artist who made a lot of heartbreaking songs, I wrote ‘Why Do You’ wanting to show a little different style of music to my fans. Although the overall process was not easy, I tried to stay positive all the time. I was also concerned because this is my first time collaborating with an American artist. But after listening to the final track, I am really excited and am looking forward to it.”
As South Korean culture has begun to receive a newfound appreciation overseas, KSP is in a perfect position to launch his music to two different audiences with shared interests. His brand new single “Why Do You” can be heard linked below, and the clear drive from KSP leads me to believe that he’s just getting started.
