It’s been a weekend full of tragedy. Glee star Cory Monteith’s tragic death and the unjust Zimmerman verdict were the most talked about topics on social networking site, Twitter. After all this upset, news was spreading of Kyle Massey, star of That’s So Raven, being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Luckily, the news is not true and Massey, like many other celebrities in the past, was subjected to yet another internet hoax.
In a statement to ET, he said on the matter: “Overnight it was trending on Twitter that I am dying of cancer. I want to say first, ‘I do not have cancer’, and I don’t know where this inconsiderate and insensitive rumour originated from.”
Massey seemed to take the rumours more personally due to his family’s history with the disease.
“Cancer is a disease that is very personal to me and my family…I’ve had two uncles and a very dear friend who passed away in the last two years from cancer and my granddad currently has prostate cancer.”
He further explained, “So, making light of any illnesses that a person has no control over getting is not something to joke about or make light of! My team and I are making every attempt to find out the original source of this story because it’s just not cool.”
Closing the statement, Massey said: “I support Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles through Disney Channel and BrittiCares International in support of children with various diseases and illnesses and donate my time with pride and dignity…This hoax is just plain classless! Especially in light of the various tragedies happening this weekend and the Trayvon Martin verdict.”
Despite the upset the rumours caused, we’re just glad the rumours turned out to be false. Here’s to hoping they find out who could start such a cruel rumour!
