Earlier this year, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way tour, the Born This Way Ball, was put to a halt due to a hip injury.
Over fifteen shows in the US were cancelled and the current Queen of Pop went under the radar for recovery. Fans knew of the injury, but not its extent.
In a new interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Gaga reveals that it wasn’t just a labral tear – she actually broke her hip.
“Before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip. I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage,” she said.
While that sounds extremely painful, she was a trooper as seen in several fan videos of Gaga at her show in Montreal (February 11) where she sustained her injury. She continued to dance and perform for her fans till the end of the final performance.
If she went on to do other shows, however, the injury might have gotten much worse.
“I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out at least a year, maybe longer,” Gaga said.
In the past six months, Lady Gaga used the time to recover and rejuvenate, focusing on her upcoming and much anticipated album/project ARTPOP. Little monsters have been showing their continued support for their Mother Monster.
On August 25, she will return to the stage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards to perform her first single off of ARTPOP: “Applause”.
The album drops on November 11th.
