For fans of Downton Abbey it has been a long wait since we saw Lady Mary Crawley, played by Michelle Dockery, become both a mother and a widow in the Christmas special. However, Michelle looked much happier when she joined her castmates in North Hollywood on Monday evening. The event, an “Evening with Downton Abbey”, was held at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre.
The Emmy nominated actress, wearing a tasteful purple dress and black pumps, will return to our TV screens as the mourning widow and mother to 6 month old baby George. Dockery, 31, says that we will find Mary in a dilemma in Season 4:
“The predicament that Mary’s in now is that she does need to find someone eventually. She has the heir to Downton, and she is under pressure to find someone. In that world, women had to find someone. It was all about marriage and who you’d spend the rest of your life with.” However she revealed that she has no idea what writer Julian Fellowes’ long term plans for her character are.
Also in attendance at the Q&A were Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Cora, Countess of Grantham and Mary’s mother, Joanne Froggatt (head housemaid, Anna May Bates), Phyllis Logan (Mrs Hughes), and Rob Thomas Collier, the closeted underbutler, Thomas. Rob was sporting a very closely shaved head, and one can’t help but wonder what Mr Carson would have to say about that.
Julian Fellowes, the writer and creator of the hit TV show, was also present.
Season 4 of Downton Abbey will premiere in the UK on ITV1 in the autumn and on PBS Masterpiece in the US in January 2014.
