Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) has been cast in the NBC TV adaptation of the 2002 hit film ‘About a Boy’.

Driver will play Fiona (previously played by Toni Collette) mother of main character Marcus, previously played by Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class). Based on the popular 1998 novel of the same name, David Walton (New Girl) will play charming bachelor Will, who befriends a 12-year old boy who is getting bullied at school. Will and Marcus’s eccentric mother, Fiona (Driver) will share a unique bond through their love of Marcus, with Will acting as a friend, brother and father figure to the boy. If the film is anything to go by, NBC have struck comedy gold.

Parenthood’s Jason Katims is working on the script for the pilot of the show, with Iron Man’s Jon Favreau to direct. The show is set to be a half-hour single camera comedy series. This isn’t the first time the story has been attempted as an adaption of the film, back in 2003 Fox had a go, but unfortunately things didn’t work out. However, 10 years on and NBC is willing to give it a go!
