On Friday, actor Isaiah Stokes, who is best known for his roles on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Power,” and “Blue Bloods,” was indicted by a grand jury for murder.
Stokes, 41, was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of weapons in the second-degree, according to a press release from Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.
“The defendant is accused of unloading nearly eleven shots during this brazen afternoon’s shooting,” said District Attorney Katz. “Gun violence is all too prevalent in our neighborhoods. We will not allow it to become the norm.”
The charges come after Stokes was accused back in February of the fatal shooting of a Queens Village man.
As the press release continues, District Attorney Katz said around 2:45 p.m. on February 7, 2021, video surveillance footage showed [Stokes] exiting a vehicle parked near the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 200th Street and then approaching the driver’s side window of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee which was parked in front of 200-08 Linden Boulevard.
Stokes allegedly fired even gunshots into the car hitting Tyrone Jones, 37, of Queens Village, who died of his injuries.
Earlier Monday morning, Stokes was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder on the three-count indictment. Justice Holder set the defendant’s return date for July 19, 2021.
Born in Queens, N.Y., Stokes was raised in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Rochdale Village, eventually attending Delaware State University. Back in 1999, Stokes founded FONTY Records, a record label, releasing some of his own songs “Let’s Go Dutch” and “The Largest Borough” through the record label, according to his LinkedIn.
If convicted, Stokes faces up to 25 years-to-life in prison. For over 25 years, Stokes has spent his career in the entertainment industry, most often appearing in crime dramas (minus the exception of Louie). He was known best for his role as Tyrone Beckwith in SVU.
