Tonight’s Teen Choice Awards had a somber moment in the two hour celebration of all that is teen friendly, and there was not a dry eye left in the packed auditorium after it. In her first on-camera appearance since the death of her on-and-off screen love, Cory Monteith, Glee’s Lea Michele thanked fans for their constant support during “these very difficult past weeks” and promised the Gleeks that “with your love, we’re going to get through this together.”
Honored at theTeen Choice awards for Choice TV Actress in a Comedy, Michele started her speech by saying, “I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much all of your love and support has meant to me over these very difficult past weeks.”
Growing emotional with every word, Michele rallied on by saying, “Not that I had any doubt before, but you guys are most certainly the greatest fans in the world.” Michele dedicated her award to Monteith and continued with, “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together.”
Smiling through her tears, Michele finished her tribute to Monteith by expressing, “He was very special to me, and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart. So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and became a part of all of our hearts — and that’s where he’ll stay forever.”
Michele’s costars Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale and Amber Riley quickly gathered around her in a hug and helped the actress make her way off stage.
Prior to Michele’s win, the Glee cast (minus a few members) had dedicated their award for Choice TV Comedy to the late Monteith, with Amber Riley noting their former costar and beloved friend was “always ready to sign an autograph or take a picture with a fan…. He loved you Gleeks.”
