Before Leighton Meester played the Upper East Side’s queen bee in Gossip Girl, she played queen bee of Neptune High in Veronica Mars. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Leighton reprise her role as Carrie Bishop on the big screen for the upcoming VM reunion.

Keeping backers of the movie updated, show creator Rob Thomas sent out an email confirming the news. “Sadly, Leighton was doing a different movie during the same time frame on the wrong coast,” he wrote in the announcement. “In the end, she was unavailable.” Meester has been filming in Massachusetts for The Judge, an upcoming film starring Robert Downey Jr.

While Carrie Bishop was the high school gossip queen, the character only appeared in two episodes in the first season. In the first episode she appeared in, Carrie accused Mr. Rooks, Veronica Mars’ favorite teacher, of having an affair with her.

Although we won’t see Leighton Meester coming back, Thomas went on to announce that Carrie would be in that movie though the role was recast. For Carrie, Thomas needed someone who was a singer and Andrea Estella from the band Twin Sister ultimately landed the role. Estella wrote a message for all the VM fans:
