Let's Break it Down: DWTS Finale Predictions!

Joey O’Hern

Staff Writer

After 9 long weeks of completion it all comes down to tonight when your favorite stars grace the dance floor one last time for the “Dancing With The Stars” finale!  So, who will take home the coveted mirror ball trophy and its inevitable career boost? Will it be country darling Kellie Pickler or Disney channel star Zendaya? Or could it be Superbowl champ Jacoby Jones? Or Olympic Gold medalist Aly Raisman?

So lets break it down, folks - what works for each of the dancers? What works against them? And then finally I’ll go over who will win and who should win…

Kellie Pickler:

Pros: Kellie, shockingly enough, is a natural dancer. She’s got exquisite form, great lines, trust in her partner, and she gives consistently good performances. Her being a full time performer as it is doesn’t hurt her in the ballroom, as she delivers lively yet emotional routines week after week.

Cons: Her partner Derek Hough (who in my opinion is the best professional male dancer on the show) likes to push the boundaries and try new things. This, unfortunately, has a tendency to backfire with more traditional judge Len Goodman. Additionally, sometimes she is so set on nailing the movements that she forgets the emotional aspect of the routines. Work on that, Kel!

Pros: The “Shake It Up” star has been a clear favorite. The girl is a natural dancer, her lines are flawless and her energy and enthusiasm is palpable. Her routines just flow easily, and the audience can see that.

Cons: Last week each star got a video montage about how they came to be the person they are today. In that clip, it was made very clear that Zendaya is a trained dancer and the online backlash to that “revelation” (I use that term loosely because I thought everyone already knew that) was loud and clear, so don’t be shocked if there is some sort of repercussion from that. Moving on, though, she also has to work on her control; sometimes Zendaya’s form gets a little wonky.

Jacoby Jones:

Pros: The man is a true showman and knows how to get the ballroom on his side, whether his dancing is flawless or not. He’s full of charm and charisma, which not only touches fans in the ballroom, but gravitates through TV screens to the audience at home as well. Not to mention that fans may be scared of his Mom!

Cons: He’s a tad on the sloppy side.  Technique isn’t necessarily his forte, and he has problems following through with moves before he moves into the next one. On the plus side is his partner, Karina Smirnoff, is incredible at working with what she’s been given and making her star appear as good as possible.

Aly Raisman:

Pros: Aly has been trained to perform under pressure with a crowd and she brings that determination to the dance floor.  Let me also add that she truly is fearless, so when Mark Ballas (her professional partner) comes up with his crazy ideas she has no problem diving into the challenge. Taking risk is often rewarded on “Dancing With The Stars”.

Cons: Aly unfortunately coasted for to long, staying in the middle of the pack; she has never been in jeopardy of elimination but has also never topped the leader board. By the time she became a front-runner (which seems like it happened almost instantly) the viewers had already become loyal to other stars. Sorry, Aly.

Who Will Win

: Zendaya - she’s got a loyal fan base who is armed and ready to vote for her as soon as the lines open.

Who Should Win

: Kellie Pickler, and if she delivers tonight she may just take the trophy right out from under Zendaya.

So, what do you think? Who will take home the trophy?
