Having already earned herself more than 45,000 streams across several platforms and a growing following of more than 25,000 on social media, Lexi Mariah might be a fairly new name and face on the music scene but she has certainly proven herself to be a talent when it comes to writing songs that connect with music fans around the world, and her new single “Waterfall”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, will no doubt do the same.
She says of the story and inspiration to the track: “While I was writing ‘Waterfall’, I was thinking about all of the people who have made me feel like I wasn’t working hard enough, even when I was working as hard as I possibly could. Being a young woman breaking into the music industry is far from an easy thing. I absolutely love what I do, but there have been so many times where I felt like no one was listening to my ideas and the things I had to say. I’ve been in a lot of situations where I’ve felt like I wasn’t being taken seriously, and I definitely think that these feelings are something that almost everyone is able to relate to at some point in their life.
The verses in ‘Waterfall’ discuss the struggles and negativity that I’m feeling from others, and the chorus is meant to make an empowering turn and focus on how I’m overcoming this negativity. I felt that the word “waterfall’ was the perfect simile to use in this situation because some days, when it feels like you have so many more people against you rather than on your side, it can compare to the feeling of being under a waterfall and not being able to get back on your feet.”
Asked what she hopes fans and listeners will take from the song, she adds: “I hope this song is able to motivate people who are going through a tough time, whether they’re struggling to feel accepted by someone, or if someone recently said something to them that’s had them feeling down. If this song can bring some positivity to someone in any way, that’s all I can really ask for.”
