LEXXE Unveils Her Horror Film Inspired New Single “Monster”

“The track..is described as being a tongue in cheek new age ‘Thriller’.”

With a background that includes studying at the Seiskaya Ballet Academy in Stony Brook and earning a BFA in Dance Performance from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, as well as having practised the French horn for close to a decade, music has always featured heavily in the life of Alexis Lucena, AKAK LEXXE.

She’s now been a staple of the music industry as a performer and established artist since 2016, with her dance background and general love of music – in all its forms, heavily influence the tracks she creates and shares with the world, including new single “Monster”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere. The track, which was written with and produced by Lyndsey Gunnulfsen of PVRIS while waching Bram Stoker’s Dracula, is described as being a tongue in cheek new age “Thriller” and draws on LEXXE’s love for classic and cult horror films.

As for the creative process to and behind the song, LEXXE says: When writing this song I was really able to have fun with the idea of writing lyrics from the perspective of a classic horror character, what would they order at the bar?  What would they say to entice a lover? My dad passed away when I was young but one of my favorite memories is him picking me up every Halloween from the school bus dressed as a classy vampire, I think part of my love for the genre is because of this. The initial inspiration behind the lyrics “make me a monster” has a few different origins, both dating back to a break up as well as me dealing with how others view me and my art. It was something I had always had in my lyric book waiting for the perfect time to use it, when Lyndsey showed me this beat I knew I’d found the right place for it.  At one point during the creation of the song she added in these guitar chugs that reminded me of the metal music I grew up loving that took the song to this amazing dance metal moment that I to this day will never forget hearing come together. This is definitely one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.”
