Another TV show bites the dust.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lifetime’s The Client List won’t return to the network for a third season.
Starring actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, the drama is revolved around a woman juggling life as a single mother while working as a massage therapist.
Hewitt also executive produced the show, but discussions between her and Sony Pictures TV about the third season’s plot direction didn’t end well. She suggested writing her real-life engagement to costar Brian Hallisay and their pregnancy into the storyline.
It’s rumored that producers weren’t enthused by Hewitt’s idea, although Lifetime hasn’t commented on the cancellation or on what sparked the decision to take the show off the air.
Even if failed negotiations weren’t the cause, The Client List has been declining in popularity since its first season, according to numbers. It’s a spinoff of a Lifetime movie that brought in nearly 4 million viewers when it premiered in 2010, but the series never garnered the same response.
The first season saw 2.8 million viewers, but its second season ended with only 2.1 million tuning in for the finale.
Hewitt is still working with Lifetime, however, with the network to develop a modern-day Pride and Prejudice.
Lifetime’s other dramas include Drop Dead Divas, set to return for a sixth season, and Devious Maids, entering its second.
Fantasy-drama Witches of East End, starring Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and Rachel Boston, is the newest addition. It premiered earlier this fall.
