Brooklyn based pop singer-songwriter and acclaimed vocalist Loren Allred just released her exciting new single “Perfect” from her forthcoming EP Late Bloomer. After sharing stages with a long list of musical legends and garnering worldwide recognition from her mesmerizing vocal performance of “Never Enough” from the hit film The Greatest Showman, Loren has since been focused on writing and recording music over the last eighteen months during the pandemic, with “Perfect” being her latest release.
With “Perfect,” Loren finds true power in loving herself just the way she is, without the pressure of fitting anyone’s ideals. She confides:“The song was inspired by my experiences trying to please everyone, and realizing that in the process of trying to achieve the moving target of perfection, that I’d lost myself. Reaching the place of knowing that you should only compare yourself to who you were yesterday is so liberating. I’m happy to be imperfectly ‘Perfect’!”
Radiating with honest emotion, her signature intoxicating vocals, and just the right amount of pop sensibility, PopWrapped caught up with Loren Allred to talk about her new single, her upcoming tour with Andrea Bocelli, and what’s next for her.
Your new single “Perfect” feels both inspiring and deeply personal. Tell me a little more about the song, what influenced the music, and how it came together sonically.
“Perfect” is about how trying to please everyone becomes a moving target. I was in a place emotionally where I had become paralyzed from perceived expectations of me. The day my producer and I wrote “Perfect”, I had been feeling incredibly insecure- like a shell of myself. I knew I had to put those emotions into a song and it led me to the moral of the song – that no one is perfect and maybe I should just embrace imperfection because it is a beautiful thing!
What messages or themes are tied most to your music? What is your purpose as an artist?
A lot of my music has themes relating to authenticity and finding oneself. I am continuing on my journey of self-acceptance and I hope listeners can feel empowered to do the same.
You have such an incredible voice. What vocal skills do you regularly practice and what do you do to keep your voice healthy for singing?
Thank you! I keep a regular warm up schedule and make sure to rest my voice when I am over-doing it. Voice lessons are integral for keeping my technique in check. I’ve recently realized that eating dinner too late is the culprit for some acid reflux issues that have affected my voice, so staying away from that is a big rule of thumb for me.
Which music icon you would like to work with in the future?
I had always dreamt of working with David Foster, and that dream came true! I think working with Sia on a big powerhouse song would be so thrilling!
You’ve achieved incredible success with both “Never Enough” from the movie The Greatest Showman and also as a rising artist in a competitive landscape. What advice would you give to other artists out there working to pursue their dreams?
I believe that success comes from preparation + luck. A big break might be presented to you but if you’re not prepared, you’ll have missed an opportunity. Control what is in your control- that means working on your craft and making sure you’re as visible as possible!
You’re touring with Andrea Bocelli this year. How did that come together, have you worked together in the past, and what are you most excited about?
Andrea Bocelli was another dream artist to work with. I’m still pinching myself about the upcoming tour. It’s a funny story actually – his US touring agent’s 12-year-old daughter apparently pushed for me to be the featured pop vocalist. I still have to thank her in person.
Are there any final thoughts you’d like to share?
Thank you to everyone who is following my journey as a singer/songwriter. I have so much more to come.
