As one of the many performers at the Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs which began yesterday and runs until April 3, Jolivi, whose real name is Leihoku, is enjoying a busy and successful 2016.
Inspired by her many life experiences, Jolivi creates passionate and moving music which fans and listeners can relate to. Her sound and style is as real and honest as she is and presents her as a refreshing change from the cheesy pop artists and the like who may rely more on their looks than their music to make their way in the industry.
Having first made waves thanks to her 2013 EP Trouble With You Gone, 2016 opens up a new chapter in the book of Jolivi as she prepares for the release of her new EP Just For You which is released on April 29.
Of her evolution as an artist, she says:
“I want to be a strong voice for other women who go through what I went through, like how Alanis Morissette and Gwen Stefani were for me. I want to show it’s okay to be vulnerable, to be heart-broken, to make the wrong choices, to lose yourself, and to ultimately know when it’s time to move on.”
Nowhere is this hope and drive more evident than on her latest single “Don’t Matter” which Jolivi describes as a song:
“…about loving and wanting someone…even if they don’t want you. Being treated badly isn’t a factor. You stick around for every minute they give you…”
The lyric video to the track which has been released today, charts a physical, mental and emotional journey, one so many of us are likely to identify with. The stripped back instrumentation allows for the raw emotion and power of the track to shine through, showcasing Jolivi’s fine voice.
