Creativity comes in all forms; sometimes it can be a solo project, and sometimes it can come when two people put their hearts and minds together to create something fantastic. The latter is certainly true of husband and wife duo Bernard and Rachel Chadwick, AKA Loud Forest and the pair specialise in blending ethereal vocals, insightful and thought-provoking lyrics and toe-tapping, head nodding rock undertones with the result being a sound and a style that is uniquely their own.
Their latest single “Costa Rica”, the video for which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, has a very personal touch to it as it tells the story of how the couple first met, instantly finding and feeling their connection to one another. Bernard recalls: “I was in the jungle digging some stairs down to a waterfall, then up walks this cute 17 year old girl in ripped up jeans out of nowhere. She was there to visit for a couple of days, she sang and played guitar (blackbird by The Beatles). It obviously made an impression on me.”
Asked about the creative process to and behind the video, he adds: “We started going out to see contemporary dance when I was in art school getting my MFA. We are big fans of the LA Contemporary Dance Company, and after seeing one of their shows, we decided to reach out to one of the dancers Ryan Ruiz who had such an interesting vibe. It took a couple of years for the starts to align, but this song Costa Rica seemed like it would be a perfect opportunity to collaborate. He worked with fellow dancer and roomate Darby Epperson to choreograph moves that they would repeat in different outfits. I hadn’t seen anything before they showed up. I just had a camera I borrowed from a friend, some lights and a fog machine. That’s basically my favorite way to work, just improvising, searching for the things that look compelling, beautiful and evoke the emotions that fit with the song. It’s such a privilege to work with such talented and disciplined dancers, the way they move is truly inspiring.”
