LucasFilm production studio, founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas in 1971, wants to completely eliminate the post-production phase of film-making.
Kim Lebreri, a chief technology strategy officer at LucasFilm, has said that real time graphics have advanced so far in recent years that, after shooting a scene, the shot should be close to the final product.
Lebreri also stated that, “If you combine video games with filmmaking techniques, you can start to have these real deep, multi-user experiences. Being able to animate, edit and compose live is going to change the way we work and it’s really going to bring back the creative experience in digital effects.”
The movie making process will thus be much faster.
New techniques include real time motion tracking and video game graphics that will allow post-production be done at the very moment of shooting. LucasFilm, ILM and Lucasart used these methods on the video game project 1313. LucasFilm says that this new method of production will allow the audience and movie viewers to customize their experience to their own personal preferences.
