Actor Luke Perry, famous for his role as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210 has passed away, following a massive stroke a week ago.
According to reports, Perry was rushed to the hospital last Wednesday while suffering a stroke. When paramedics arrived at the residence, the actor was still conscious, but things soon turned for the worse.
In an effort to stop further brain damage, doctors placed Perry in a medically-induced coma, but after tests, it soon became apparent that the damage was irreparable.
Since his heartthrob days on 90210, Perry also starred on the show Riverdale, along with other credits. It was also announced last week that 90210 would receive a reboot from FOX, with the bulk of the original cast. Perry was not going to be a series regular due to his schedule with Riverdale, however, he was slated for guest appearances.
Perry’s rep stated,
“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world. No further details will be released at this time.”
Celebrities and friends took to Twitter to express their condolences.
Heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking. RIP #LukePerry https://t.co/hVnP3yGUJy— Josh Gad (@joshgad) March 4, 2019 The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted “Buffy” to be. I asked if he’d ever seen “Near Dark” and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we’d get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn’t be gone.— Joss Whedon (@joss) March 4, 2019 My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family. ❤️ #LukePerry— Molly Ringwald (@MollyRingwald) March 4, 2019 Crushed. Luke Perry was truly a great guy. Warm, kind, generous and hard working. We met very young, I witnessed the grace with which he became a pop icon & parent. He’s been an awesome example of how to stay decent in a swirl of crazy. Love to his family❤️ https://t.co/bGlTX8mNbB— Seth Green (@SethGreen) March 4, 2019
