The Hollywood Reporter shares that it looks like the force may be with Mark Hamill once more as new information from the upcoming Disney-backed relaunch of the Star Wars saga makes it way out. So far the information about it remains scarce but what is known is that it is written by Oscar winner Michael Arndt and being directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Alias, Lost).
The top star himself, Mark Hamill, have given some indication that it will include some role for the original stars of the first trilogy. Hamill spoke to Entertainment Tonight and said “George Lucas wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts; they would write us out.”
Hamill did confirm that they are in the talking phase with the writer of the relaunch of the saga and that he wants all of his surviving co-stars to be involved in the new project. He also thinks that Luke will be channeling a mentor vibe like Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by the late Alec Guinness in the original trilogy.
As it has been reported, Lucasfilm and Disney are planning a new trilogy of films and that the studio was prepping films about Han Solo, the iconic space trafficker made famous by Harrison Ford and bounty Boba Fett. They are also looking at spin-off movies that focus on other individual characters as well.
As for Hamill, he most recently appeared in the film Sushi Girl and has made a name for himself in voice acting, most famously for voicing The Joker in various Batman cartoons and video games.
Are you excited for the possibility of Luke returning to the big screen? The force is getting strong with this relaunch, would you say?
