Production has begun on the adaptation the Dark Horse graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold by Victor Santos. Polar will be directed by Jonas Åkerlund and with a script written by Jayson Rothwell. Åkerlund’s previous work includes a multitude of projects and has worked with extremely well known artists and celebrities, including The Rolling Stones, Madonna, U2, and Lady Gaga. His film, Lords of Chaos, recently premiered at Sundance Film Festival. He received an Emmy nomination for his work on Beyoncé’s Lemonade as well as Grammy nominations for his music films of famous live performances.
The story, which follows a former top assassin being pulled out of retirement when his former employer tries to kill him off, will be brought to life by a cast of fan favorites, including Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Hannibal), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), and Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers, Powerless). Described as “a brutal, fast-tempo story of revenge,” the graphic novel originally began as web comic.
Polar is currently being shot in Toronto, Canada, and is scheduled for US release in 2019 on Netflix, and elsewhere by Constantin Film.
