They say we are all born with one natural talent. Well, in the form of Malan Breton, it seems he may well have been born with several of them, only it took him some time to realise what they were and then share those talents with the world. Having moved from Taiwan to New York in the 90’s, in the past, he’s been a model and dancer, working alongside the likes of Missy Elliot, but he really began to come to global attention when he was featured on Season 3 of Project Runway. Since then, his designs have been featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race and at the American Music Awards, while he earned himself a readership of more than 10 million a week as a columnist for OK! Magazine. Branching out into the world of film and directing meanwhile saw him pick up the Best Documentary Short award for his feature ‘Malan Brenton: A Journey To Taiwan’ at the NYIFF Awards in 2015.
Today, as an established entrepreneur in his own right, Malan is best known for being a top class fashion designer and stylist who counts the likes of Kerry Washington, Daniel Craig and Priyanka Chopra among his clientele, but having first explored the arts through film-making, now he’s an artist in the musical sense too.
Tomorrow, Malan offcially releases his single “Something Stupid”, featuring Emergency Tiara, which he describes as a: “..quintessential secret love story, but its lyrics are actually much more endearing than it has been presented in the past.” He adds: “The lyrics touch so many facets of humanity, and the human heart.”
Asked about working with Emergency Tiara on the single, Malan can only sing her praises saying that she has “a beautiful compassionate energy and is so fun to work with.” The video for the song, which was shot at a baroque royal palace in London, will be released shortly, but in the meantime, check out the “Something Stupid” below and for more information on Malan, visit his website, check out his YouTube channel or follow him on Instagram.
