June 2013 marks the 75th anniversary of Superman and both Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment have revealed how exactly they’re going to celebrate the milestone.
The character has definitely made a cultural impact all over the world throughout the years, becoming not only a very visible brand, but also a pop culture icon. “We are proud to commemorate this milestone with exciting entertainment across the entire studio and across the globe, ensuring this enduring icon reaches new generations of audiences,” Warners CEO Kevin Tsujihara told the Hollywood Reporter.
Kicking off the year-long celebration is the release of DC Comics’ Superman Unchained which will go on sale on June 12th, followed by the release of Man of Steel on June 14, which will probably be one of the summer’s blockbuster films. The film was directed by Zack Snyder, who was also tapped to direct an animated Superman short for the anniversary.
Although details are very scarce of the two-minute short, Snyder envisioned one continuous shot paying homage to the Man of Steel and his many appearances over the past 75 years. Warner and DC plan to show an animatic version of the short during this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. The actual debut of the short is set for release in the fall.
The character will also appear in the Infinite Crisis video game as well as in shorts for Cartoon Network that will air throughout the year.
It’s going to be a big year for the superhero from Krypton!
