The Popular Manga Series Shaman King Could Return In 2018

Kodansha has been dropping hints that their popular late 90’s, early 2000’s series Shaman King could make a comeback sometime very soon.

The return of a late 90’s early 2000’s manga series could be upon us with the former Shonen Jump series Shaman King!

If you now found yourself in your 20’s and had a history of love for anime and manga, the last few years have been a treasure chest of returning favorites. Cardcaptor Sakura will be returning with a series this year, Yu Yu Hakusho announced an anime OVA (hopefully it will become a series) and now the possibility of Shaman King presents itself as another example of good old fashioned nostalgia.

A banner (that can be seen here) offers us a silhouette of the familiar lead character along with a website that links to Kodansha, with the date January 1st, 2018 suggesting we will receive more information when the new year hits. If you aren’t familiar with the series or maybe just need a few reminders, Shaman King follows Yoh Asakura, a medium/shaman hoping to access great power to become the Shaman King – a coveted title given once every 500 years that can reshape the world to their liking.

Unlike Yoh, not all want to gain the power for good and it begins a clash for power and importance in the world of Shaman King that ran for more than 30 chapters selling several million copies in Japan alone. There have been talks of a return for the last few months, but this can truly give fans the hope they needed to reassure us all that our older favorites still have a place in the current climate of anime and manga.
