Star Wars news arrived recently with official casting announcements for the final film of the new trilogy. Within that news, we learned that Carrie Fisher will reprise her role through already filmed work and wouldn’t be replaced in any way. This was great news for Star Wars fans because her death shook all of us, especially with her future in the films uncertain. We weren’t the only ones touched by the news as Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) shared a touching post about moving on without her, and how much it means that they won’t find a way to bring her back artificially.
Hamil’s post read, “It's bittersweet facing my final chapter without her-She is simply irreplaceable. I'm finding solace in the fact that she won't BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news. #CarrieOnForever” It immediately got 45K retweets and over 200K likes from all of us who agree, so deeply, with his words.
Hamill will return as well, for the final chapter, we assume as a Force Ghost (but maybe Luke survived). Also, Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, which would have been better if the cameo had occured when Han Solo was there as well. Harrison Ford has not, and most likely will not, return to the Star Wars franchise.
The entire Star Wars fandom, and more, mourned Carrie Fisher’s death. She was a shining star that we never believed could be put out, so when it happened, it broke us all. But, knowing that her role will be preserved through only her performance is great comfort in our loss. Princess Leia gave all little girls the bravery to be more, and Fisher is responsible for that. She was, and always will be, an icon. Thank you for your sweet words, Mark Hamill, we all needed them.
My daughter told me she wants to be just like Leia…a princess and a general. That’s right a grrrl just like Carrie was too.

That tribute during the credits of TLJ always gets me especially with her music playing.

I cant imagine your pain or loss. Know we are holding you up, hurting alongside you, missing her, thankful for the art you continue to make.
