Marvel’s Inhumans are headed to ABC as an eight-episode mini-series, and the royal family has a new member! Serinda Swan (Graceland, Breakout Kings, and Chicago Fire) will play Queen Medusa, wife of Black Bolt (Anson Mount) and sister-in-law to Maximus (Iwan Rheon).
The Inhumans first appeared in 1965 and were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. They are a community of super-humans with “diverse and singularly unique powers” gained through terrigenesis. As for Medusa’s superpower, she can “wield her long, red hair as though it were additional limbs, though it’s arguable her most important role is that of her husband’s confidant and translator.” Since Black Bolt’s voice is so powerful, he doesn’t speak and depends on Medusa to help him communicate.
“Serinda empowers Medusa’s regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character,” Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb told Entertainment Weekly. “She is nothing short of wonderful.”
“Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination, to the role of Medusa,” Inhumans showrunner Scott Buck added. “I couldn’t be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan.”
Swan is equally excited to join the Marvel family. She shared the following on her Instagram page, "I cannot tell you how excited I am to become a part of the @marvel family. Thank you to everyone that made this happen, this is an absolute dream!"

Inhumans will debut in IMAX theaters around September 1 for two weeks. Then, the series will move from the big screen to the small screen and premiere on ABC on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Can’t make it to an IMAX theater? Don’t worry. The first two episodes will be shown jointly in IMAX and will air separately on ABC once the series premieres.
Can't wait until September to see Swan on-screen? She's also set to appear on Ballers Season 3 airing this June on HBO. What do you think of Swan playing Medusa? Let us know in the comments below.
