With Iron Man 3 on the way in just weeks, who else is curious about what comes next in the Marvel movie universe? We know they’ve got Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor 2,Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Avengers 2 down the pipeline, so what can we expect from Marvel in the future?
Kevin Feige, Marvel’s commander in chief, has the scoop, and he dishes in an exclusive interview with SFX magazine. Recently there has been speculation that the next phase of Marvel movies will focus on the cosmic realm, and the third phase will focus on the magical, but Feige has said that no, the three phases are not necessarily set up that cut-and-dry. He is quoted as saying “The Thor film and the Guardians of the Galaxy film certainly are cosmic. Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95 per cent in space. I think Iron Man 3 shows the other side of Phase Two, which is delving deeper into the characters.”
So it looks like we’ll be back in space with our Marvel heroes before long. We got an outer space peek at Thanos at the end of The Avengers, and we’ve had confirmation that the villain will make appearances in Thor 2 and The Avengers 2. Those two films are part of the second phase of Marvel films, as is the upcoming Iron Man 3, but what else can we see in the future? Feige goes on to say that Guardians is more of a standalone picture, and that the Avengers are not involved with what’s going on with them as of yet.
For the rest of the interview with Kevin Feige, along with Shane Black (director of Iron Man 3), be sure to pick up your copy of SFX magazine #233. You’ll also find exclusive Doctor Who coverage and an interview with Nicholas Hoult!
So, I have to ask – who else is totally excited to see what Marvel has in store for us?
