Hollywood's favorite and most successful bromance , Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have once again teamed up to produce an interactive mobile app-based reality show! The two movie stars made the announcement last Wednesday in a press release.
The show, which will be called The Runner, will be only available on the go90 app of Verizon. The premise is that one person referred to as the "runner" will have to race across the United States without getting caught or recognized. He or she is required to follow a designated itinerary and then stop at certain checkpoints. At the same time, eight teams composed of two people each called "chasers," will have to locate the "runner" and capture him or her.
Whoever achieves their goal first, which is to capture for the "chasers," or arrive at the final destination for "the runner" will receive the $1 million cash prize.
There is also an audience participation side, using the go90 app, viewers will be able to send out tips on how to capture the "runner." (Hopefully they'll upgrade this someday, so that people can buy presents for the participants, which will be delivered by blinking containers with parachutes).
The concept in itself is insane, but feasible . It also makes a lot of sense how they came up with it, since it has been sixteen years in the making. It is the sort of thing you tend to dream up with your best friend, after you have had a few drinks and one of you pipes "You know what would be a great idea, bro?"
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will serve as Executive Producers while Verizon, Adaptive Studios and Pilgrim Media Group will co-produce. Marc Joubert, founding partner of Adaptive studios said that “this is an excellent format for a brand new platform,” and that The Runner is our way of meeting a Millennial audience where they live — on their smartphones and on social media.”
It sounds really fun and if you're interested in being a "runner" or a "chaser" do check out their site, where they are now casting participants! May the odds be ever in your favor!
