@hkdaglish Two weeks ago, PopWrapped brought you news of rumours that Matt Smith had not quite hung up his bow tie for good. Whilst at the time these rumours were a result of things overheard by fans watching Doctor Who being filmed, the plot has now thickened, with reports of sources at the show confirming a Matt Smith cameo in season 8. Speaking to The Mirror, the show source said, "Doctor Who’s sidekick Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, is struggling to accept that Capaldi is still her Doctor when she receives a phone call from Matt, which he made prior to his regeneration. It sounds confusing but he is ringing the future from the past and wants to assure Clara this new man is still Doctor Who." This rings true with the earlier rumours, that Clara receives a phone call that "hits her hard". Fans also overheard Peter Capaldi, who is also involved in the scene, asking to "double-check what 'Matt's line's' would be on the phone". The Mirror has also obtained a video, which shows Clara finishing the phone call and slowly but surely approaching Capaldi before embracing him, as if she has finally accepted that he is still the Doctor. You can check out the video here.

So, having had a show source confirm a cameo from Matt, it looks like we'll have a few final more words from the 11th Doctor. Whilst a vocal cameo seems definite, The Daily Mail went so far as to suggest that he will "regrow his famous floppy hair for the role", which suggests that we may actually also get a glimpse of him. However, this is as yet unconfirmed, and a simple vocal cameo seems far more likely. The cameo may help ease the transition for fans of Smith's Doctor, and will certainly reiterate the "wibbly  wobbly, timey wimey" time lines the show has become famous for. Season 8 will mark the first with Capaldi as the Doctor, and Smith's cameo is currently expected to feature early in the run. For Matt Smith fans looking for a way to ease their way into the Capaldi era, the 55-year old is currently playing Cardinal Richelieu in BBC's The Musketeers.
