Self-proclaimed “indie folk turned genre-bending Americana-Newgrass duo” Maygen & The Birdwatcher – CMA nominated singer/songwriter Maygen Lacey and guitar virtuoso Noah Neumann – established a deep musical partnership and have since enlisted other top mid-west musicians including Ethan and Jesse Moravec on upright bass, mandolin, fiddle and vocal harmonies, as well as Nik Pellinen on banjo and lead guitar to help bring their songs and ideas to life. Inspired by everything including the natural world, family dynamics, addiction, love and loss, each track they release perfectly blends relatable lyrics with a folk-pop sensibility, and PopWrapped are delighted to premiere their latest single “Jigsaw.”
The track, taken from their upcoming full-length album ‘Moonshine’ due out in the fall, examines family dynamics and how strained they can be under stressful events such as a global pandemic, with Maygen explaining: “I know MANY families that were entirely shook by the pandemic and the new found EXTRA EXTRA time with only the people under their roof. You’ve got a number of individual humans with all their own wants/needs/quirks/triggers all living in the same space. It can be a PUZZLE to figure out how to keep everyone feeling loved, valued and heard. It’s important to continually shift and shape your unique family into something that can thrive no matter what life throws at you.”
With its timeless folk-laced landscapes, soaring strings, and an attention-grabbing chorus complete with honey-dipped vocals, “Jigsaw” reminds us all to sit back and accept each other for a better future, despite how hard that can be.
