Meryl is coming to Monterey.
I repeat: Meryl is coming to Monterey.
Further proving that we currently live in a golden age of television where the lines between the big and small screens continue to be blurred, Hollywood A-lister and film legend Meryl Streep will be joining the cast of HBO’s Big Little Lies next season.
It’s a huge addition to a show that already boasts a remarkably star-studded cast. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, what more could we possibly need? The answer is Meryl Streep. We always need Meryl Streep.
Meryl Streep Joins Season Two Of Big Little Lies
Official news that Big Little Lies would be returning for a second season broke last month, and the announcement was met with mixed reactions. On the one hand, yes we love the ladies of Monterey, with their unmatched chemistry and well-forged friendships. On the other hand, season one was perfect, conclusive, and doesn’t really need a follow up.
But let’s face it. The show won just about every award it possibly could. Of course they’re making another season.
A handful of new characters will be popping up next season, including Bonnie’s (Zoë Kravitz) parents and a new teacher at Otter Bay Elementary, but if you’re wondering who Meryl Streep will be playing, wonder no more: Streep will be joining the cast as Mary Louise Wright, (SPOILER ALERT) the grieving mother of the awful and very dead Perry (Alexander Skarsgård), visiting Monterey out of concern for the well-being of her grandsons. That’s right, folks. Meryl Streep will be playing Nicole Kidman’s mother-in-law.
I’ll say it again: A golden age of television.
