Listen closely, ladies. This one is for you! In an interview with The Guardian, Michael Douglas claims his heavy drinking and smoking were not the main reasons he was diagnosed with throat cancer three years ago. Instead, Douglas states:
"No, because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus.”
"I did worry if the stress caused by my son’s incarceration didn’t help trigger it. But yeah, it’s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."
Douglas sought medical attention in August, 2010 after suffering from months of oral discomfort. He, unsurprisingly, remembers the moment that his doctor delivered the news vividly:
"I will always remember the look on his face," Douglas added. "He said: ‘We need a biopsy’. There was a walnut-size tumor at the base of my tongue that no other doctor had seen."
Eight weeks of intensive chemo-therapy and radiation yielded positive results as Douglas has been clear of cancer for over two years. Douglas also stated:
"With this kind of cancer, 95% of the time it doesn’t come back," he explained.
So, ladies, the moral of the story is this: when your man is giving you the not-so-subtle hint that he’d like for you to take a trip South, just tell him that the risks of that particular task are too great. It may cause cancer, after all.
In all seriousness, whether Michael’s claims that oral sex is what caused his cancer hold up or not, we wish him nothing but the best with this journey; and hope that he remains cancer-free!
