Mum’s been the word, ever since the series finale date for The Office has been announced, on whether or not the show’s swan song would see the return of Michael Scott. When the rumors of the former Dunder Mifflin boss’ reappearance in the finale were denied vehemently by executive producer Greg Daniels, fans of the series were disheartened. They were left convinced that the May 16th finale would be Michael Scott-less.
Not so fast, TVLine says! In an exclusive conference call with Daniels, it was revealed that Michael Scott may just return to Dunder Mifflin one last time after all. According to the article, everyone involved in the series, from Daniels to Carrell himself, viewed “Goodbye, Michael” as the perfect way to say goodbye to Michael Scott’s character. The return of Scott, Daniels discussed, in the final episode would likely overshadow those characters who also deserved proper send-offs. But wait a minute… does that mean that Carrell could still have a role in the finale without overshadowing the other Dunder Mifflin employees?
TV Line seems to think that this is exactly what Daniels hinted to them. “According to sources,” the article states, “Carell’s return engagement qualifies as more of a cameo than a full-fledged guest appearance.”
What do YOU think, PopWrapped readers? Would you love to see Michael Scott return for the series finale of The Office? Or do you think that “Goodbye, Michael” was a perfect way to wrap up his arc on the sitcom?
