CAUTION: THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW FOR MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III (2006) AND MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL (2011)
According to Heroic Hollywood, Michelle Monaghan is on board to return for Mission: Impossible 6 (2018), hitting theaters next summer!
We’ve certainly received a lot of Mission: Impossible 6 news over the last few months, such as the no-surprise big action stunt Tom Cruise has planned, although it has usually been casting notices like Henry Cavill joining the film or Jeremy Renner leaving the film. Bringing the very talented and underrated actress Michelle Monaghan back for this film is a great addition and awesome surprise, whether this will be a larger role or a cameo we can only speculate at this point. Rebecca Ferguson from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) is already set to return to this film as Ilsa Faust; however, even though she works well with Ethan Hunt (Cruise) in a tough situation, she might not be taking over as the love interest quite yet.
Fans of the Mission: Impossible franchise will known Michelle Monaghan from playing Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) wife, Julia, in Mission: Impossible III. She also had a brief, surprising cameo at the end of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
Last seen in Sleepless (2017) with Jamie Foxx, Monaghan brought so much to Mission: Impossible III, providing the emotional backbone of the film when she was kidnapped by Philip Seymour Hoffman’s villain Owen Davian, making it arguably one of the best films of the franchise for those heightened stakes and more personal feel alone. According to Ghost Protocol, the two of them separated not long after those events in the third film (to keep her safe), so it will be interesting to see what type of role she will have in the sixth film’s thrilling plot to come. After her absence in the fifth and previous film, Rogue Nation, will she be back in Ethan’s life for good?
Each and every bit of news for this film just gets us more and more excited. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (director of Rogue Nation and Jack Reacher (2012)), Mission: Impossible 6 will star Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan, Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Kirby, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames. It jumps into theaters on July 27, 2018.
