Miley Cyrus took the stage for her Bangerz tour this past Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Flaming Lips members Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd surprised concertgoers by appearing on stage with Miley to perform a collaborative rendition of their song “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part 1.” When Coyne approached Miley on stage, the “Wrecking Ball” singer announced her excitement: “I’m a true fan of these amazing guys.” According to Consequences of Sound, Cyrus added, “I don’t think you guys understand what this means right now. Fuck yes!”
That night also happened to be the anniversary of The Flaming Lips’ first performance in Oklahoma, but celebrating at Staples Center among a huge audience is definitely a nice way to commemorate a special day.
Throughout the show Cyrus also did covers of “Jolene” by Dolly Parton and “Hey Ya” by Outkast, which appear to be in her tour setlist. Another moment with Miley attempting to gain even more attention involved a kiss between the Bangerz singer and Katy Perry who attended to see the spectacle.
