Miley Cyrus’ new song “We Can’t Stop” has garnered some interesting comments and critiques, but those were nothing compared to what listeners thought they heard in part of the song.
In the new single, Cyrus sings “dancing with Miley,” however, some people were speculating that she was actually singing “dancing with Molly” a popular euphemism for Ecstasy.
The 20 year-old blamed the misunderstanding on the southern up-bringing. “I have an accent,” she told Rolling Stone. “So when I say ‘Miley’, it must sound like ‘Molly’.”
The star continued to defend herself by saying, “You’re not allowed to say Molly on the radio, so it obviously says Miley. I knew people were gonna wonder what I’m saying in that song.”
It makes me wonder that if she knew people were going to misinterpret the lyrics…did she sing it on purpose for the publicity for when people talked about the song lyrics?
Apparently however, someone could mistake her “dancing with Miley” lyrics for an apparent euphemism for cocaine and it make sense. “People refer to [cocaine] as ‘Miley Cyrus’,” she added. “My name is used in hip-hop songs to mean that, so even if I’m saying ‘Miley’, people could still find something wrong with it.”
She does strike a chord there, art is always up for interpretation and if you look close enough you can find ‘hidden meanings’ in anything *cough Disney movie conspirators cough*.
