Two hundred and ten Blu-Ray copies of the second half current season of Doctor Who were accidentally sent to fans in the US – BEFORE the final episode aired.
But thanks to the loyalty of the fans, the secret was not leaked to the press.
Who Boss, Steven Moffat, and the BBC, sent out a plea to the 210 lucky recipients not to spoil the ending for them. They were not let down.
Moffat described the leak as “a bit Keystone Cops”. He added, “My favourite fact is that they’re BLU-RAYS. Listen, we don’t leak any old rubbish, we leak in high def. 1080p or nothing, that’s us. Every last pixel in beautifully rendered detail. It’s like getting caught extra naked.”
It wasn’t just the fans to whom the videos were sent that kept mum – Doctor Who websites helped, by closing their comments sections.
Steven Moffat again: “Never mind us blundering fools, check out the fans. Two hundred and ten of them, with the top secret episode in their grasp – and because we asked nicely, they didn’t breathe a word. Not one. Even Doctor Who websites have been closing their comments sections, just in case anyone blurts. I’m gobsmacked. I’m impressed. Actually, I’m humbled. And we are all very grateful.”
