‘Molly’s Game’ First Trailer Talk

Jessica Chastain returns for the highly anticipated Molly’s Game, costarring Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, and Michael Cera. Get your first look here!

After her emotional, heartfelt performance as Antonina Zabinska in The Zookeeper’s Wife (2017), powerhouse Jessica Chastain returns to the screen this year in the dramatic thriller, Molly’s Game (2017), and the first new trailer that dropped shows that this film could be a serious Oscar contender in several categories, and an intense, entertaining ride to say the least.

Like her roles as Maya in Zero Dark Thirty (2012) and the title role in the recent Miss Sloane (2016), both of which you should see if you haven’t (for her performances alone), Jessica Chastain’s performance as Molly Bloom certainly looks again here that she is a force to be reckoned with. Based on true events, Molly Bloom is an Olympic skier who decides to run a secret, underground poker game that has celebrities and business tycoons from all circles attending, eventually arousing the eyes of the investigating FBI. The trailer has an Ocean’s Eleven (2001) feel, but with a simultaneously slightly darker tone like the Casino Royale (2006) Bond film where the production and costume design is rich, alluring, and high class. It almost comes across as a much more serious version of this year’s The House (2017), but with obviously much more serious motivations and consequences, and is by no means a comedy.

Molly’s Game will be helmed by Aaron Sorkin in his directorial debut, although you have probably heard of several films he has written for: Moneyball (2011), Charlie Wilson’s War (2007), The Social Network (2010), Steve Jobs (2015), A Few Good Men (1992), The West Wing (1999-2006), the list goes on. Sorkin without a doubt knows how to craft a story, and provides sharp, dialogue heavy scripts that really pull the performances of the actors out onto the screen in a sophisticated way that only he can. Sorkin’s movies really make you think and observe what each character is expressing in a more thoughtful way, so a film written AND directed by him will be a sight to see. His scripts have earned him six Golden Globe nominations and two Academy Award nominations.

Molly’s Game will star Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba (The Dark Tower (2017)), Kevin Costner (Man of Steel (2013)), and Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)), and shuffles into theaters this fall on November 22, 2017.
