Are you on the hunt for a truly unique dining experience — and happen to be in the Montclair area? If so, we definitely have just the restaurant recommendation for you. While robots servers may seem to be a topic straight out of science fiction, GEN Korean BBQ House has brought it to real life.

With tracks running throughout the restaurant, GEN Korean BBQ House has special wheeled robots that bring the food from the kitchen directly to your table. The robots, which have flashing blue lights, were the idea of former Baja Fresh CEO David Kim, who felt a strong desire to bring something different to the restaurant experience.

“(David Kim) saw how he can help the servers,” said marketing director Ricky Kim. “He’s always talking about doing something different. That’s his motto. Do it different.”

According to Michael Yates, the vice president of operations for GEN Korean BBQ House, every order is placed on one of the robots and sent to the table in less than a minute, saying that it would take a lot of pressure off operations.

Are Robot Servers The Wave Of The Future?

In addition to a truly unique experience, the owners of GEN Korean BBQ House say that the robot servers will make things more convenient for both staff and customers. According to professor of economics and finance at the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University, Jay Prag, this method of serving is destined to be commonplace in all restaurants in the future.

“There will ultimately be fewer jobs in the industry. They won’t go quickly because people still like having a face to face encounter with a human waiter, but one waiter will be able to do many more tables because of the technological innovation.”
