The Jonas Brothers, the cast of Glee, Justin Bieber, they have all taken part in the music industry’s newest entertainment strategy: 3D concert movies.

It is a known fact that artists go on tour. It is also known that the more popular the artist, the faster the tickets sell out. Many times, there are thousands of fans who are denied the chance to see their favorite singers belt their hearts out live on stage. Well not anymore. Now they are able to experience the show up close and personal without paying hundreds of dollars.

In today’s world of music, it can’t be denied that the pop group One Direction leads the popularity race by an astounding margin. And at Sony’s most recent press conference in Cancun, they announced their plans to create a concert movie of their own. Teaming up with documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, the quintet will be captured live on tour in the upcoming movie This Is Us.

“I mean, what’s amazing about the lads right now is that they are at this incredible place in time where like literally the rocket is still roaring through space. And they’re about to go on the biggest tour of their lives. And we capture kind of the build up to that and them going on this worldwide arena tour” stated Spurlock when asked about the making of the movie.

“For this film, we wanted to make sure that we gave you access to their lives, their families, their personal lives, their homes; moments that you would normally never get to share. They have such a great connection to their fans and are really so open with them in so many ways. We wanted that to continue in the film in a way that really was unique and special like the band is.”

Band member Harry Styles also commented of the documentary and his enthusiasm to begin. “It is exciting as well because at the same time you know there is only so much of ourselves that people can see. You know when through social media or in interviews and stuff like that you can never really get to know someone. And I think this movie is a great chance for the fans and just people who don’t really know us to get a chance to see a different side of us that they haven’t seen before.”

As for the 3D aspect: “Well, they are already so handsome in 1D, I wanted to make sure that we took them even closer to you” responded Spurlock.

This Is Us will be released in the UK on August 29, 2013 with a US date to follow.
