My day just got exponentially better, and that’s thanks to MTV!
The network announced today that its freshman horror series Scream will return for a second season, following last nights fifth episode of the spectacular adaptation. With over 21 million viewers taking the time to view at least some of the series, and another 7.9 million viewers across various streaming platforms, everyone has had a taste of blood with MTV’s hit series Scream. The network also shares that the series ratings have impressively increased over 60% of the live ratings throughout each week’s episode, and found solid ratings in MTV’s coveted 18-34 demographic.
MTV’s Executive Vice President of Series Development as well as the Head of Scripted Programming, Mina Lefevre says, “It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of ‘Scream.’ We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns.” Further more, Bob Weinstein himself (co-chairman of Dimension Films and Weinstein Company) shares his excitement for future Scream stories, adding, “The ‘Scream’ franchise has been such a huge part of our history and to watch it evolve, find a new generation of fans and succeed at MTV makes this all the more sweet. We promise even more scares, surprises, romance and of course kills in season two.”
The renewal for Scream is a much deserved one, as the series successfully brings the slasher genre to television format while staying aware of pop-culture trends, self awareness, and creates a unique horror story that isn’t on television at the moment. Every week I’ve been glued to the TV to see what our masked killer’s next move will be, and enjoy speculating just who the killer could be (much like my experiences with the Scream films!) Congratulations to the creative writers, talented cast, and dedicated fans, season 2 is actually happening Scream Team!
Stay tuned for more of my Scream coverage which already includes episode recaps, reviews, interviews, and all things Scream! Are you as excited as I am?
