Well Scream fans… I have some disconcerting news. After a phenomenal first season that I fell in love with from beginning to end, fans like myself couldn’t help but wonder what would be next for the MTV horror series based on the cult classic films by Wes Craven. The first season altered the rules of horror by having its core group survive (which was a brilliant decision on the showrunners’ part), but, apparently, the people who have been bringing us a great adaptation won’t be around in the same capacity for Season 2. It was announced that Season 1 showrunners Jill Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia will be departing, with Michael Gans and Richard Register (Make It Or Break It) taking over the position for the upcoming second season. I absolute adore the Scream series, but I’ll admit… this news has me a little worried. To lose the people responsible for a great 10 episode run makes me wonder what direction MTV hopes to head for the future of Scream.
Part of what made the MTV Scream series so special is how much care went into it by the former showrunners who oversaw the series and maintained its successful direction throughout Season 1. Of course, in Hollywood, there are always creative differences and shake-ups such as this, but hopefully everything will work out for the best. Fortunately, Blotevogel is still attached to Scream as a consultant for the horror series, which gives me promise that Scream will still follow the direction set in motion by the former showrunners. Regardless, we owe Blotevogel and Paglia a massive thank you for bringing Scream to our TV’s with an effective series that filled a void for all horror television series. PopWrapped wishes them both nothing but the best on their endeavors, and we look forward to seeing Blotevogel’s contributions as well as whatever story that’s being prepared for Scream Season 2!
