Nadia Vaeh is not afraid to get personal with and through her music. Knowing that music is one of the strongest forms of connection we all have, to ourselves and with others, she’s one of a growing number of artists turning their own personal, often emotional and difficult experiences into songs that can influence, motivate and inspire people. Her latest single “Anxiety” is one such song, and PopWrapped are delighted to premiere its video.
Asked if there’s a particular message or story to the song, Nadia says: “‘Anxiety’ is something many of us can, unfortunately, identify within this crazy world. I drew from my experiences in co-dependent relationships and my general anxiety struggles in writing this song. I continuously work hard to heal many of the issues where my anxieties are rooted. The thought patterns that create such a headspace can be hard to kick and can make it difficult to do even the simplest of things depending on the day, hour, or triggers. I hope this song helps those with anxiety struggles feel less alone.”
She adds of the creative process to and behind the video: “I was blessed to work with two award-winning directors on this video, one of whom is my family and the other who might as well be! My cousin, Noor Gharzadine did all of the creative direction whilst she was abroad in Lebanon during some pretty crazy times for our little nation. Our Lebanese friend/brother from another mother, Zane took on the role of director of this voyeuristic vision we dreamt up. This music video was very cathartic to create as I really got to express what anxiety feels like in my brain, out into the physical world. Anxiety left unchecked can easily morph into mania and serious depression. That’s why self-expression and talking outwardly about our internal struggles are so vital. I hope this video helps remind people that the battles in our minds don’t have to be fought alone.”
Proceeds from the song will go to MusiCares, an organisation she praises very highly. “I’ve decided to align this song with MusiCares as they do some amazing work for the people in my industry, which is such a tough space to have as your livelihood,” she explains. “Before COVID, the entertainment business already posed daunting challenges, extreme financial struggles, and insecurities to anyone daring to enter. Songwriters and artists were already in a battle for their financial well-being before all of this. Then there are all the non-money related stressors and depressors that go hand-in-hand with the music/entertainment space. What was already a difficult plight has become more so with an industry ravaged by a pandemic and has changed every way we live and work. My peers need the support of such an incredible organization now more than ever.”
