Former Lost actor Naveen Andrews has said that he welcomed the change that came after “the island,” from a movie about Princess Diana to a TV series inspired by Alice in Wonderland.
Andrews, aged 44, will be playing Jafar in ABC’s new show Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. While in the upcoming film Diana, he will be playing Dr. Hasnat Khan alongside Naomi Watts, who will be playing Princess Diana.
When speaking to the Television Critics Association, Andrew’s said that after Diana, the Wonderland series offered a chance to do something completely different that isn’t, “bound in space and time.”
Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz dropped hints about Andrews’ character during a press tour in Beverly Hills on Sunday, saying, “We knew we wanted Jafar, we knew we wanted Naveen. Similar to what we do with Once Upon a Time, no villain is just born evil, they’re made evil. For us, that is the story of Jafar, the story of what is driving him to need this power. With Naveen, we know he can break your neck with legs-as we saw in Lost- but he can also make you cry.”
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland debuts Oct. 10th on ABC.
