You would think that networks and producers had come up with every possible reality televisions series combination that is out there. We have celebrities ballroom dancing, ice skating, and diving. There’s a show for you all bakers, home renovators, and dieters. People try to find true love, work their way around the world and live together with strangers. Apparently they haven’t as NBC has just ordered a new reality series that takes place 24-hours a day over 12 days straight.

The Million Second Quiz will place its competitors inside a gigantic hourglass structure set in Manhattan, according to the Huffington Post. This structure is not only the battlefield where the competitors will fight it out against each other playing “The Game”, but will also be their home for the time they are competing.

Not much has been said about what “The Game” is or what is consists of. The release from NBC said that contestants will “test the limits of their knowledge, endurance and will to win as they battle each other in intense bouts of trivia for 12 consecutive days and nights”. Does this sound like your local pub quiz meets Big Brother to anyone else? The grand cash prize of $10 million cash certainly beats the night’s kitty from my local.

Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC Entertainment, said in a statement, “The Million Second Quiz is a genre-redefining spectacle. It is a game, a social experiment, and a live interactive event all wrapped into a uniquely sticky entertainment experience. What is exceptional about The Million Second Quiz is that it embraces technology’s ability to allow everyone in America to actively participate and compete in a way that has never been done.”

While its broadcast 24-hours, the special primetime broadcast will include “nail-biting game play and a David vs. Goliath challenge to one of the reigning champions”. It has been stated that home viewers will be able to play along in real time and win the opportunity to appear on the show.
