Are you ready to consume your news in a completely different way? NBC is launching a news show to premiere on the 26th called Stay Tuned, a twice daily program that will debut on Snapchat’s Discover platform. The show will have a morning and afternoon edition, as well as a weekend show, and will include updates for breaking news.
Stay Tuned will target millennials
Hosted by Savannah Sellers and Gadi Schwartz, this new program definitely marks a change in how people watch the news and stay informed. Used by over 166 million people worldwide on a daily basis, this is a move that will largely target millennials.
“It’s fitting that NBC News is pioneering this new format for a new platform,” says Nick Ascheim, senior vice president for digital at NBC News. “It’s a continuation of NBC News’ tradition of innovation, first in radio, then in inventing color TV and the morning news program, and now with an entirely new type of news show for Snapchat."
How to watch Stay Tuned
For those wanting to check out the new show but don’t quite get how Snapchat works, the NBC website has posted this helpful guide:
- Open the Snapchat app (it will open to the camera).
- Swipe left to access the Stories Page of the app, where you can see Stories posted by friends, and Discover content.
- Scroll down and you will see the Show within the “featured” list, in its own “Shows” section. You can also swipe left again to access a dedicated Discover page, which also features this content. (So the show is available in two pages within the app.)
- Tap on the show’s “tile” (the image) to watch Stay Tuned. You can then tap to advance or go back within the show, letting your finger act as your remote control.
NBCUniversal is the first major network to produce shows for Snapchat.
