The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! And yes, I’m being totally sarcastic when I say that. The new cast list for the 118th season of “Dancing With the Somewhat Stars” was announced Tuesday. The new dancers and their partners are listed below (of course with a few comments):
Wynonna Judd and Tony Dovolani
Well Tony, at least you won last year with Melissa right? Personally, I’m from the South so the Judds are somewhat royalty but I don’t see her doing well. Ever see her do an interview? She always comes off as a sedated dog. I doubt she’ll have the energy needed to win nor do I think she’ll care.
D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke
Now this pairing, I think could actually work. Not only is D.L. funny, he’s a showman and the middle aged women of America will like that. Not to mention he couldn’t have a better partner. I’ll predict a top 3 finish for them.
Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff
He wins a Superbowl and he does this? Well hey, it gives him something to do in the off season. Not to mention he gets to dance with Karina Smirnoff. Holla!
Lisa Vanderpump and new dancer Gleb Savchenko
Finally we get a Real Housewife on the show. Andy Cohen must love the free press. I actually think she might do well. She’s obviously got a loyal fan base from Bravo that might tune in (or at least that’s what ABC is hoping). My only question is who will hold that dog of hers? Maybe she can make him into a purse like Quvenzhane Wallis so he’s never to far from her side? What? Too far?
Andy Dick and another new dancer Sharna Burgess
Shouldn’t he be in rehab somewhere? No really? I thought he was in rehab again…or jail? Not a fan but hey, we’re getting a new professional dancer. Can you imagine that meeting? “Hi, we’d like to welcome you to the DWTS family as a pro-dancer, the bad new is you get Andy Dick.” He will be gone early.
Victor Ortiz and yet another new dancer Lindsay Arnold
Well there is always a pretty boy isn’t there? After all, this show is geared toward middle-aged women. What? It’s true. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t get mad with possible bad scores and deck anyone in the face.
Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy
I have two thoughts on this pairing. Isn’t Zendaya on a ABC/Disney show that’s focused on her being a dancer? But hey, you know ABC would have one of their own employees somewhere in this cast. Not to mention, anyone else think Val is a little to old/sexual to be her partner?
Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas
As soon as the Fab 5 danced with Shawn and Mark during the All-Star season I knew this would happen and that whomever they got (even though lets be honest we all wanted Gabby) would be paired with Mark.
Ingo Rademache and Kym Johnson
I don’t really have a comment but I do love Kym Johnson. She always seems nice.
Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough
I’m calling it now; this is the couple to beat. Kellie has a strong fan base, an infectious personality, a great body and just screams to me “natural dancer.” I think once Derek whips this girl into shape, this couple will be the one that scares the rest of the pack. This show is voted by middle-aged women (it’s true, I’m not just saying that) and those are the same women who can’t get enough of Derek and who will love the southern charm Kellie brings. Trust me, she’ll at least make the top 3.
Dorothy Hamill and Tristan MacManus
A part of me says she won’t make it far, the other part says she’ll do well as past figure skaters have, I’m looking at you Christina Yamaguchi. Not to mention, as a fellow Irish lad I always root for Tristan.
But what about number 12?? If you were like me you counted the contestants from the start realizing they were down one from previous seasons! My bet is that it’s current Bachelor Sean Lowe and ABC is just waiting to see who he picks as his wife to tell if America still loves him. Or maybe, to cause some drama and tension they are looking for another Housewife Lisa Vanderpump doesn’t get along with? Dun dun dun! Time will tell!
DWTS Season 16 premieres March 28 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
