New Tomb Raider Comic Series Launching Early 2014

A new series of Tomb Raider comic books are coming soon and said to be set mere weeks after the conclusion of the recently released Square Enix’s video game reboot.

Dark Horse Comics announced that Batgirl and Red Sonja writer Gail Simone will be penning the new comic book series.

In an interview with Kotaku, Simone said the only reason why she is doing this series is her love for the Tomb Raider game. She added that fans can expect the comic books to definitely keep “the tone of the game. I’ve always loved the classic, cool Lara Croft, but this feels like her origin story, like we’re seeing her before she becomes the icon, and it’s very compelling to me.”

Simone also confirmed that the comics will be part of the “Tomb Raider canon, and lead DIRECTLY into the sequel”.

Digital Spy notes that no artist has been announced for the project yet but Dan dos Santos will be providing the cover art.

Expect to see Tomb Raider #1 to hit your local comic book store on February 26, 2014.
