NYC’s CLAVVS Ready New Album With Title Track “O”

NYC-based duo CLAVVS have shared their new single + visualizer for “O,” the title track from their forthcoming album, out 7/29 on the band’s newly launched label Turn to Wind Recordings. The album will be available on Iridescent Seafoam Green Limited Edition vinyl, which can be pre-ordered HERE.

Their music has been featured in Netflix’s YouTiny Pretty ThingsLocke & Key, and Charmed, among many others. The duo has made waves playing sold out shows in North America and sharing the stage with names like Ibeyi, Baio, and Siames. Many may already be familiar with Graham Marsh (one half of CLAVVS) from his successful production career, where he landed four Grammy wins and worked with artists like Gnarls Barkley, Kid Cudi, Lauryn Hill, & more.

“O” gracefully blends the margins of R&B, dance, and pop, and focuses on the circular nature of things, and how nothing really ever ends. In addition to releasing new music, CLAVVS has also announced a national supporting tour with Elder Island, which kicks off November 9th in Boston.

“’O’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written,” says Amber Renee on the track. “I used to spend days in various NYC cafes and coffee shops writing songs. I’d have a deck of Oblique Strategies cards with me, and on the day I wrote ‘O,’ I pulled a card that said ‘Is it finished?’ So I wrote that question down in my notebook and suddenly this song poured out of me in like 10 minutes. I called Graham right then because I was just that excited about it.

….”The lyrics actually circle back on themselves, like a palindrome, to demonstrate their own meaning. I’m so proud to have written this song. It’s brought me some comfort, especially with my existential dread. Maybe ‘the end’ isn’t what we think it is.

When Amber Renee and Graham Marsh started CLAVVS, they had a singular goal in mind– to make catchy songs that challenged the status quo. And while that ethos remains at the heart of all they make, their long-anticipated sophomore album O, out July 29th, finds the duo getting playful and even more personal. Embracing movement, joy and self-acceptance in their emotionally complex, dance-tinged alt pop, O is an invitation to dance through the hard times.

The entire album straddles the line between joy and catharsis, exploring the way the two fold into one another. Sonically and thematically, O is designed to circle back into itself, like an ouroboros. “I went back to the beginning of my story and I wrote songs about some of my hardest moments growing up,” Renee goes on to say. “I processed a lot of old trauma by making dance songs for my past self. Healing is like this ever-evolving, never-ending, imperfect dance we’re all doing all the time,” she adds with a laugh. “And as soon as you think you’re done, it just starts all over again!
