One victim is confirmed dead and at least fourteen injured after a shooting this afternoon at the Fort Hood military post in Killeen, Texas. There were earlier reports of more than one shooter, but it is now believed that there was in fact only one, who is now dead. The base is now on lockdown with all personnel instructed to stay in place.
The incident started around 4:25 PM when shots were heard near the transportation motor pool.
A soldier on the post stated that he and other soldiers “heard four gun shots and assumed they were blank rounds. We then heard a burst, another burst and it was clear they weren’t blank rounds. They were live rounds.”
The soldier also told KENS TV that he witnessed one person hit by the gunfire.
These breaking events come in the wake of a massacre in 2009 at Fort Hood which claimed the lives of thirteen people.
